W A Elmer of Albany high school announced contest results from a seed corn company. Paul Elmer won first with 102 bushels per acre and earned a bushel of seed corn. Other awards went to Glenn Malkow one half bushel Carl Hannes and Russell Atkinson one fourth bushel Daryl Davenport and Kenneth Rhyner with jack knives.
In Tel Aviv Yehudi Menuhin opened his first Israel concert to a 1,500 strong audience. Despite hostile Israeli press coverage for his postwar appearances in Germany, the event sold out with tickets at 14 dollars each.
Monticello area Farm Bureau members gathered at the Casino hall Tuesday evening for an event featuring accordion music, conservation movies, and talks led by guest speaker Clarence W. Benkert of Monroe.

A 4 H organizational meeting at Mills school selected Mills Pep 4 H club as the name. Nancy Brecklin serves as president with Donald Pehl as vice president Raymond Carter as secretary Meridith Thorsen as treasurer and Eugene Golackson as reporter. Next meeting is at the school at 8 Friday with refreshments.
Memorial services for Lt. (jg) Robert Heck 27 will be held Sunday at 2 at Afalkey Bethel Evangelical United Brethren church. He was killed March 25 when his fighter plane crashed into the Atlantic 14 miles off Ft Lauderdale Florida while dropping a marker for target practice. He served with the naval air reserve and had worked for an Indiana insurance company. Born June 21 1922 near Dakota Illinois he was a Dakota high school graduate 1940. He is survived by his parents Mr and Mrs Clayton Heck and two brothers Lyle and Louis.
H M Barkow the Brodhead co operative weather observer for the federal government received a 10 year service record pin after 18 years of service and nearing a 20 year award. He records daily high and low temperatures measures snowfall and rainfall and reports unusual wind velocity.
Darlington council postponed replying to a state highway department request to keep curb parking on Main street. State aid for resurfacing could be withheld if curb parking is abandoned. The Tuesday meeting tabled a resurfacing resolution for the four block stretch along Wisconsin highway 23. Last April the city banned center street parking at the highway department’s request, drawing resident protests over traffic and double parking.
The Monticello Homemakers club donated to the cancer fund drive and Salvation Army at a Tuesday meeting led by Mrs. J P Zweifel with co-hostesses Miss Hulda Karlen and Mrs. Jake Thompson. Officers were reelected with Mrs Howard Kennedy president, Mrs Marvin Zimmerman vice president, and Mrs Marcus Westen secretary treasurer. The center clubs purchased a walker for convalescents to exercise. Plans were made for a club trip in June. Sixteen members and one guest, Mrs Emil Voegeli, attended.
Dutch Hollow homemakers re elected officers at a Tuesday meeting held in the home of Mrs. Chester Ludwig. Officers are Mrs. Conrad Elmer president, Mrs. Milton Breck lien vice president, and Mrs. Lester A. Witt secretary treasurer. Project leaders are Mrs. Chester Stauffacher and Mrs. William Kenatsch with Mrs. John Blumer as reporter. Sunshine committee includes Mrs. Earl Geigel and Mrs. Chester Ludwig.
