The Universalist church in Monroe marks 100 years in 1958 and outlines a centennial observance tied to a Wisconsin Universalist convention. Interior redecorating is near complete with refinished furniture and new altar materials. Committees are forming for a three to four day program and booklets with church photos and past ministers will be mailed to members. The history recalls pastors from 1858 to 1868, notes the old courthouse service, and mentions a 45 foot steeple added in 1863. The 1868 Boston Conservatory organ is highlighted as possibly Wisconsin’s first pipe organ in the church.

Women Escape Injury After Highway 69 Mishap
Mrs Herman J Schmitz and her sister Mrs Jane Stevens visiting from Hampton Iowa escaped injury when their southbound car blew a tire and rolled over on Highway 69 one mile north of Monroe at 3 40 p m. The vehicle sustained moderate damage and both women returned to Iowa.
