Fred Galli and Fred Lienhardt compete for the state assembly seat to fill the late C M Stauffer’s unexpired term. Eleanor B. Frederick runs unopposed for city treasurer. Local wards choose new aldermen in the First and Seventh Wards with Harold H. Snively and Jerry J. Coplen as nominees. Incumbents Herman L. Schindler and Evan C. Chambers seek re election in their wards. 4692 voters are registered. polls run 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Turner hall.

Two Monroe Airmen Escape Tornado Path
Two Monroe airmen stationed at Sheppard Air Force Base in Wichita Falls along with their families escaped injury as yesterday’s tornado hit. Mrs. Howard Wells formerly Frances Miller, daughter of Franz and Mrs. Miller, reported they were safe after 3 p.m. Their husband, son of Orson and Mrs. Wells, and a fellow serviceman were en route home when the tornado struck near Monroe, about 10 miles off base, with four Wells children in the household. Keith Holloway and wife had trouble reaching his parents Cecil and Mrs. Holloway in Washington Township. Mrs Holloway is the former Meta Mueller of Monticello.

Monroe Board of Education approved a three year extension of the school bus contract with Monroe Truck Lease Inc. to handle added pupils in 1964 65. The deal lowers per pupil cost from over 80 to about 73 dollars and requires three more buses, for a total of 12. The district will buy gasoline and sell to the firm, saving about 1200 dollars.
