Fire destroys Centenary academy building
Early morning blaze at Centenary academy, discovered before opening, caused by a furnace malfunction. The building burned with an estimated loss of about $5,000. On a Wabash line train from Mexico to Centralia last night a group of about fifteen intoxicated Black passengers caused chaos in the smoker after a white man tried to quiet them. Sheriff W G Houston confronted the disturbance, subduing a violent ringleader after a ten minute fight. The restrained man was jailed at Moberly pending transfer to Warbash agents on Monday. The incident followed the Republican victory and drew local praise for the sheriff’s actions.

Les Osborne held a sale last Thursday and gained possession of his harness shop in Monroe Saturday. A special dock sale at Dimis Jewelry Store runs this week.
