First Cotton Bale Report From Harlingen Texas
W R Yates and his son Norvin wintered near Harlingen Texas and started the first 1912 bale ginned July 1 sent to Houston for 410 dollars with a 100 premium. The bale likely goes to New York then Liverpool and possibly royal use abroad. Harlingen residents rushed a special train to Houston to claim the honor but Yates also supplied a second bale selling for 65 with a 75 premium. A bank letter congratulates Yates while noting a large local crop prospect and a second bale may be produced with a 75 local premium.
