Admiral Dewey and the Manila Surrender Question
The Springfield Republican notes that Dewey claimed 5000 soldiers could have compelled Manila's surrender after the Spanish fleet was sunk, but argues he lacked those troops. It credits Avuin aldo’s army with filling the gap, beating the Spaniards and trapping them at Manila, making inland retreat impossible.
