A contest prompts readers to buy subscriptions and clip a 100 vote coupon to support preferred candidates. Nominees listed with a deadline of January 31 at 6 PM for funds raised, offering a leather hand bag to the top fundraiser and prizes for all workers.
The Democrat sponsors a grand Piano and Diamond Ring contest to reward the candidate with the most subscriptions. About 150 nominees are listed with prizes including a $350 piano a $100 diamond ring a college scholarship and a gold watch. Nominate yourself or join as a subscriber and help the contest manager Bell 280 F. M. 90. Also notes on local farming shipments and a memorial obituary for Dr. Richard Asbury born 1838 in Missouri who practiced medicine in Monroe City and died in Hunter Oklahoma 1911.

The two week revival at the M. E. Church South ended Sunday evening with ten confessions and nine additions to the Methodist Church. Rev. J. W. Kimbrell of Madison preached. The First Baptist Church hosts upcoming services and special meetings led by Rev. Thos D. Brown of Louisville and Rev. E. H. Robinson. Public invited.
Dr J R Hull sold Monroe Hospital to Dr J N Southern at the start of the week. The price isn’t disclosed and Hull’s plans for locating are unknown. Southern, a leading physician and surgeon, is expected to run a successful institution.
J B Anderson Ernest Borden and Po Stephens complete a three way farm swap. Borden receives the J B Anderson farm southeast of the city while Stephens gets the Borden farm and Anderson takes two residences formerly owned by Stephens. D C Clark trades a 26 acre farm near Ely and his city residence to W B Spalding for a 200 acre farm near Palmyra. Clark resigns as Rural Mail Carrier effective March 1 and moves with his family to the new Marion County farm praised as one of the best with fruit.
