The Democrat and Merchants Big Piano Contest closes at 3 p m January 27. Churches column notes weekly schedule and church events across Methodist, Christian, and Grace Baptist congregations with services, Sundays, prayer meetings, and speaker appearances. Monroe City Bank directors elected with Proctor as president and Jaeger as vice president.
Missouri bank names nine directors including W. R. Yates and J. B. Corley. Officers elected: Yates as President Hagan as Vice President Jackson as Cashier and Patterson as Assistant Cashier. Board lauds bank as solid institution with conservative, courteous leadership.
Monroe City edges toward full water works sewerage and electric system completion. Burns & McDonnell engineers placed H. E. Scheark in charge. J. A Pringle finished the lateral sewer at a district cost of 16571.42 for 442 property owners. Burlington Railroad paid 1087.00, Strean barber shop 2.25. Tax payments continue as improvements advance. A strong Commercial Club is urged for all citizens and the vicinity.
Mrs. Miller’s Sunday School class ladies and their escorts, Mesdames Miller Tate Walker Gray Willard Watts Larson Bur ditt Dierks, gathered at Perry Maxwell’s home for a delightful luncheon. Mr Maxwell and Mr Burch depart for Lake Village Ark next week, with Mesdames Maxwell and Burch leaving in about two weeks, leaving many friends to miss them.
Miss Blanche Jarman marked her fifteenth birthday with a surprise party hosted by fourteen friends. Aleen Orr also celebrated her birthday that day and attended a supper gathering. Delightful refreshments were served and Blanche recalled it as one of her happiest days.
Mrs Y E Sullivan reports December output from 50 hens and 50 pullets totaling 501 eggs about 42 dozen an unlikely month for eggs. She sold 10 20 dollars worth of eggs. Last year January to June production exceeded 3 000 eggs. Birds are Rose Comb Rhode Island Reds. Also note George Chipman and family visited his parents in Hannibal at the start of the week.
Farmers in Monroe County plan seed corn tests this year due to uncertain maturation. The weekly market letter from Woodson and Fennewald details cattle and hog prices, with steers commonly 7.50 to 8.35, heifers 7.40 to 8.15, cows 5.65 to 7.00, hogs 8.10 to 8.35, and lambs 8.00 to 8.35. Additionally, openings include the Old Bank Trust Co and Citizens Bank debut, with celebratory events, staff, and architectural notes. News notes report Eva Rogers death in Chicago, Everett Lawson’s eighteenth birthday, a Miss Tomye Ely recital, and local birth and death tallies for 1912 in Monroe and surrounding counties.
A stockholders meeting at the F and M Bank agreed to proceed with arrangements to finance a 1913 fair in Monroe City. They urged community support to make it the biggest and best fair yet, with plans to start work immediately and a follow up meeting scheduled next Tuesday evening at the bank.
