Thanksgiving Dinner At The John O Wood Farm

Real estate dealer D K Yowell hosted a Thanksgiving dinner at the Monroe Hotel for greeting telephone operators and ten guests and their spouses. His John O Wood farm spans 800 acres with 600 acres in corn and 340 acres untouched, yielding an estimated 20 000 bushels for his share this year. He recently declined a bid of 112 50 per acre, noting the farm remains among the region’s best. Mrs SH Baynum was a Shel binn visitor on Tuesday.

Monroe City Farm Institute Promises Evening Lectures

A letter from T C Wilson secretary of the State Board of Agriculture defends a two day Partners Institute at Monroe City on December 7 and 8. The plan includes home made candy fancy articles a fish pond oysters and chocolate with a bake sale Saturday to raise funds for the Chautauqua fund. Attendees are urged to contact the paper for exact times and topics once known.

Prohibition Defeated in Missouri by Wide Margin

Official returns from Jefferson City show Prohibition defeated in Missouri at the recent election by 218125. It received 207281 votes with 425406 against it, carrying only 37 of 115 counties.

Clock Keeps Perfect Time at Perlin Observatory

The electric clock in the basement observatory, enclosed in an airtight glass cylinder, runs two to three months with an average daily deviation of fifteen one-thousandths of a second. Astronomers seek even better accuracy by placing clocks in underground vaults to isolate them from temperature and barometric pressure changes.
