County Court funds gravel roads with grants
The east end of the County Court received praise as it allocated funds for road improvements. Chas L Elzea was granted one hundred dollars for the gravel road west from the Fair grounds, Victor Hagan received one hundred dollars for the Hagan road, and William Hays secured two hundred dollars for his gravel road. The court promised Elzea a further two hundred dollars at the next meeting for the missing tink along the Indian Creek gravel road.

Republican Allies Hold St. Louis Convention
The Public Ownership party met in St. Louis on Thursday chaired by Meriwether who appointed an Executive Committee with broad powers over the state party. The delegation criticized the ruling of the convention as unfair and questioned the leadership. Officials named included L. P. Galdwell as long term Railroad and Water Commissioner and T. W. Hackett as short term. Alfred A. Green was named State Superintendent of Public Schools.

Johnson found guilty of first degree murder in New London
The trial of Jesse Johnson for the murder of M. D. McRae began in New London with Prosecutor Hays leading for the state. After witnesses and Johnsons testimony, the jury convicted Johnson of first degree murder and Judge Eby sentenced him to death with execution set for Friday September 12, 1902.

Mrs Addie May Underhill wife of L Doda died near Hannibal Friday. Remains were brought here Saturday and taken to Bethlehem church where funeral services were held Saturday afternoon by Rev B P Hixson. She leaves a father H G C Underhill a husband two brothers and many friends to mourn her loss.
