A surprise reception Saturday night by Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Nolen honored Rev. and Mrs. W. W. Laughlin pastor of Grace Baptist Church on their twenty fifth anniversary. About eighty church members and friends formed the committee. A shower of silver dollars twenty eight in number and other silver was given to the couple. Rev. and Mrs. M F P Crowe gave a dollar bearing the 1888 mint date. A supper was served by the hosts.

Death of William J. Pike in Monroe City Missouri
William J. Pike born December 7 1827 in Nelson County Kentucky died March 26 1908 in Monroe City Missouri. He moved to Missouri in 1853 lived in Indian Creek township Monroe County until 1896 then settled in Monroe City. Married Elizabeth M. Yager in October 1858 with ten children, 65 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Funeral March 28 1908 at Roly Rosary church with Rev Fr Mullen. pallbearers were six grandsons. Community remembers him as honest devout and devoted husband father and neighbor. Miss Grace Turner visited Shelbyville Monday.

On March 28 1908 A G Jones and wife celebrated fifty five years of marriage with their large family. Ten of their thirteen children four sons in law and twenty seven grandchildren gathered at the festive board to share in the joy.
