Narrow Gauge Delegation Pushes Rail Link Across Illinois
Delegates from Monmouth Burlington Canton Pekin Bloomington and other towns met in Canton to push the Burlington Monmouth and Illinois River Narrow Gauge project. They endorsed construction cost savings and urged a trunk line across Indiana Ohio and nearby states while planning resolutions and a Chicago transport convention agenda.

Excursion Guests Visit St Louis From Rockford Line
A Tuesday rail excursion by officers and business leaders along the Rockford Rock Island and St. Louis line traveled to St. Louis. Invited guests included Wm Laferty president of the First National Bank Geo C Rankin of Atlas R J Grier representing the Review and J H Williams Monmouth road agent. They spoke of avoiding the crooked whisky in St Louis courts.

Beeding of Henderson County lost twelve head of young cattle since last Friday with stomachs filled by dry husks. Dr. Vanhoorbeke cites Mr. Barnes west of Monmouth losing six head by a fatal fever. More farmers report cattle losses. Also ads for dress goods at Reichard's and a cattle sale where L. H. Gilmore sold forty six steers to W. Flack at six dollars per hundred. bred from St. Lawrence. A notice lauds the Churchill House in Canton Illinois as one of the neatest and best kept hotels in the Military Tract under manager 8 T Burrell. Delegates used it as headquarters during a narrow gauge meeting and left satisfied with the arrangements. A horse stolen from Alex McIntyre near Monmouth is reported with no clue. Coal sales by W F Smith & Soule end of snippet.
