Oregon faces no state normal schools as boards block openings while Oregon Agricultural College taps ex Monmouth Normal president E D Ressler to lead a new industrial pedagogy department. The move follows a clash between OA C policies and the separation of normal schools amid tense state education politics.
Sarah Jane Kirkpatrick born Feb 22 1838 in Ohio. She married Joseph Lee Oct 25 1866 in Missouri and had two sons. The family settled near Rickreall Oregon then Dallas Polk County. She died after a paralysis stroke Nov 19 1909. Funeral held at home and at 1 30 P M at Dallas church with Rev Sparr. She rests beside her husband in I C O F cemetery. She leaves a stepdaughter a brother and siblings in Missouri Arkansas and Oklahoma with many relatives mourning. She joined the M E Church early and lived a life of charity and faith.
Special six week and five day short courses start January 4 and February 11 for farmers, agriculturists, and stockmen. The programs cover general agriculture, dairying, horticulture, mechanical arts, domestic science, forestry, and commerce with lectures, demonstrations, and exhibits. No entrance exams. costs include board from 3.50 to 4.50 per week and up to 8 in course fees.
Herbert Fennel who has long been in Spokane has returned to Monmouth again, resuming his residence there after a period away.
Rebecca J Leonard born on a farm near Asbury Chapel Missouri died at her sister Mary C Agee's home on Wednesday November 10 1909 after a lingering cancer illness aged 51 years 7 months 29 days. She joined the M E Church in 1882 and remained active. never married she cared for an aging mother and helped with her sisters. Funeral held at Asbury Chapel conducted by Rev T H Swearingen with many relatives and friends attending. She is survived by her mother two sisters Mrs Mary Agee and Mrs J R Mason and two brothers J H Leonard and G W Leonard. The bereaved receive community sympathy.

Real estate transfers cover numerous Dallas Falls City and Polk County parcels with values and grantees noted along with marriage licenses issued Roy Harrington and Louise Lemmon Birton Lovelace and Sarah J Woods.
Dr. J. M. Crowley of Portland visited this week to see Miss Ova Smith who is seriously ill. Crowley has long served as the family physician.
During the past week about eleven hundred sheep were driven through town toward Independence on their way to Portland by rail. Messrs Boothby and Lewis shipped six hundred, while a gentleman named ace was noted in Portland.
