Census Statistics Show Polk County Farm Growth 1920
Census figures released this week show Polk County with 17 1/2 thousand farms in 1920, up from 1,557 in 1910, a near ten million rise in farm value over ten years. Indians operate a fraction of farms. most are owned or rented. Tillable acres expanded from 14,478 to 18,256.73. total assessed value excluding utilities reaches 11,002.40.

Rufus M Smith born April 1 1842 in Monmouth Illinois died November 12 1920 at his home in Monmouth Oregon He crossed the plains with parents in 1853 settling near Monmouth Polk County He married Irene M Wren in 1867 at Corvallis Oregon and leaves six children plus a brother sister and grandchildren He was a G A R veteran buried at Davidson cemetery Monmouth with Ballantyne of Dallas preaching the funeral.
