Oregon prepares a two booth display at the U S Land Show in Chicago from November 20 to December 8 with lectures and 5 to 8 Oregon representatives. The Pacific International Livestock Exposition opens December 18 at Portland Union Stockyards with 15000 dollars in cash premiums and strong national entries.

City Council Sets Eight-Mill Levy and Finances Review
The common council met Tuesday evening with all members present to approve claims for general and water funds. A lease dispute over a depot lot was discussed with the Dallas L and L Co and S P Co promising action. City Attorney Swope opined on holiday elections and valid acts. A price on Lot in block 4 was postponed. The 8 mill city tax levy was approved and a hydrant at Main and Knox slated for removal. The water board recommended lower meter rates after comparing with other cities.

Ferry Breaks Cable Drifts Down River Near Independence
A river ferry broke its cable Friday afternoon near Independence as it drifted mid stream with four loads of gravel and a rig. Spectators watched as workers loosened harnesses to free horses. Mr. Skinner arrived with the Independence launch and pushed the ferry back to shore with its load.

Train Schedule Changes for Monmouth Dallas Airlie
On and after November 16 riders will see reduced service with a 2:15 P M departure to Dallas replaced by a 6:15 P M departure from Independence to Dallas and a 7:20 P M Dallas to Monmouth. Independence to Airlie service shifts to 2:15 P M with return at 3:30 P M. arrive Independence 4:15 P M. The 7:15 P M Independence to Monmouth trip is discontinued.
