Rural Center Week Highlights at New Normal Chapel

The enlarged New Normal Chapel hosted a busy Rural Center week with record crowds for the opening exercises. Mountain View won the annual flag for the year as Nan Denham and Miss Tirrell figures were noted among staff, while a Senior Class Play by Jo sephine Seger of Portland celebrated America’s wartime effort with elaborate stage symbolism and praise for Seger's talent.

High School Commencement Exercises Featured in Auditorium

The Monmouth high school held its commencement in the school auditorium with E. L. Keeves of Eugene as speaker. Of twenty four graduates, twenty two attended to receive diplomas from board chairman O. A. Wolverton, as Principal Hedrick presented them. The Normal Orchestra and glee clubs provided music and Mr Blackstone delivered solo work plus faculty commentary from Prof Gentle. President Ackerman closed with remarks on high ideals for teachers. Oscar Williamson presented retiring faculty member W. H. Burton with a travel bag.

Portland men hear patriotic talk at 1918 Oregon Normal rites

Commencement exercises close as B F Irvine Portland Journal editor delivers keynote address on education and German militarism. Dr Joshua Stansfield of Portland Preaches at baccalaureate with themes of doubt, faith, and wartime unity. Regents meet to approve budget and faculty salary increases while dormitory funds complete Girls Cottage.

The Last Chapel Closing Exercises At Christian College

The Last Chapel marks the school’s closing week with a military style drill by seniors in purple and white. Miss Mish leads the juniors, Mrs. Clair Grout speaks for seniors, G. A. Hurley voices alumni, noting seventy six Christian College graduates. Reuben Hastings visits Pedee resident reports on Oregon connections.

Alumni Day Program Highlights Service Without Price

Tuesday featured Alumni activities with a business meeting reception and an evening program. Judge A E Wheelock delivered the keynote titled Service Without Price, praising work for achievement over wages and noting patriotic philanthropy amid costly war. E E Bragg and B F Irvine attended and sat on the platform.
