Normal School Notes Highlights County Superintendents Visit

The annual visit of county school superintendents attracted broad participation with representatives from many counties. Guest speakers included Mr. Naxson of Lincoln and Mrs. Ivanhoe of Union. A packed program featured luncheon by Miss Butler, a July 24 musical recital, cantata based on Longfellow, and a dramatic hour with Eugenia Woodbury performing The Witching Hour.

Noxtious Weeds Enforcement Under Oregon Law

Oregon law section 9 requires cities to enforce weed rules or face county forfeitures from 50 to 500 dollars. Section 6 imposes fines for owners who permit Russian thistle Canada thistle Chinese thistle or white mustard cocklebur or silver salt bush to grow and seed, with first offenses 10 to 50 dollars and subsequent 25 to 100 dollars, fines to county general fund, justice courts jurisdiction.

Barber C E Force plans a year off and rest in Eastern Oregon. He rents the shop to his helper E M Ebbert who will take possession about the first of September. The residence is rented to a Mr from Milford who will reside there while sending his daughter to Normal School.

Monmouth City Council Approves June Report and Funds

City council met with all members present and approved minutes and claims paid from water road funds totaling 120.25. The June 1915 recorder’s report was approved for filing with month’s collections at 234.45. Suggestions included an extra light at the Southern Pacific depot and moving a street light junction, plus purchase of two fireman roof sealing shoes at 3 each. Council to reassemble July 27 at 8 PM.
