New students boost total enrollment to 425 as training school buildings are set. Contractors report enough gravel for event walks to be completed Saturday night. Campus grounds may be graded if funds allow.
The city council met with all members present except H. C. Ostien. Bills were audited and ordered paid as the focus of a council session and a public open meeting on street paving and drainage was announced with Engineer W A Himes of Dallas invited to explain systems. The Rose Festival design meeting followed the session with Mayor Murdock presiding.
The auditing committee approved bills totaling 556 388 with allocations for water and road funds. D. M. Hampton moved to approve. J. Goodman seconded. Dr. L. C. Price was appointed health officer for the coming year. A street light at Powell and East streets was referred to the Street Committee.
Public notices invite visits to the Southeast Room High School Library with hours 3:00 to 4:30 p.m. on Tuesdays Thursdays and Saturdays. A partial list of numerous titles includes Sherlock Holmes Tales, The Palmetto, Travels of Marco Polo for boys and girls, and many works on civics, nature, and American life.
The 1916 poster launches national publicity for the Rose Festival set for June 7 8 and opening day dedicated to the Columbia river highway. Donated by artist Fred G Cooper the banner reads For You a Rosen Portland Grows and will soon hang in transportation offices nationwide.
Open meeting on Tuesday evening the 29th will feature Engineer Himes explaining paving projects and other street improvements. The session is part of the commercial club's agenda.
