Swift packing plant to start in Peninsula Portland
The Swift interests packing plant on the Peninsula near Portland is expected to begin operations on March 14 creating about 500 jobs initially and likely doubling within a year. The project includes a large livestock market and side product plants and marks the tallest building effort with a Yeon building start on March 10 at the corner of First and Alder. Passenger rail service on 25 miles of the Tillamook extension is planned to begin April 1 from Tillamook to Vosburg with broader Portland to Tillamook Bay service anticipated by fall.
