Ida M. Tarbell, noted lecturer and associate editor of American Magazine, will speak at Monmouth on March 2 on topics including Industrial Idealism and The Development of Abraham Lincoln. The event follows a tribute to Lincoln at the Oregon Normal School with student activities and a $31,000 appropriations report praised by the faculty.

Normal to Get 31000 and 65000 for State Institutions
President Ackerman was told by the legislature's ways and means committee that the university and agricultural college will receive 65000 each and the Normal 31000. Fifteen thousand dollars will enlarge the chapel with a west wing adding space and lockers for gym use. Six thousand dollars funds two years of training in Independence and Mountain View. More faculty, critic teachers, and two additional positions are planned as work increases.

Monmouth High Plans Student Run Paper and Track Hopes
The Monmouth High Ways student newspaper started on a financial basis at 25 cents for 17 copies, with Francis M. Arant editor and George Walker business manager. Measles kept Ralph Brown from school. Rosamond Tuttle returned after two weeks out. Students are building a track program as discus, javelin, and shot put events begin during vacant hours. The Freshman Cubs defeated the Albany Angels in a recent basketball game.

City Council Targets Septic Tanks and City Property Plan
The council met at city hall with Mayor Ostien and aldermen to discuss septic tank standards, condemnation of unsanitary tanks, barn and manure pile powers, and a ten meter expansion in water service. Monmouth Transfer Changes Hands in Local Sale
Last Friday afternoon the Monmouth Transfer changed owners with Gordon Bowman selling to Frank Skeen. Skeen, longtime in the city harness trade, will devote himself to the transfer business. Sheen and Agnes complete sale with Williams taking the harness portion, Winegar and Lorence taking the hardware, and Bowman handling paints and oils.
