Apollo Club of Salem to Perform in Normal Chapel Tonight
The Apollo Club of Salem will repeat its program tonight at eight in Normal Chapel. The club, composed of twenty five prominent Salem businessmen led by Mr Todd, will be accompanied by a soloist and reader. Tickets 60 cents, reserved seating, Markins or at the door. The new semester opened with higher attendance and renewed student activities after a long dormancy.

Last Saturday Grange organized the Monmouth Live Stock Shippers Association after a trial carload to Portland. About twenty members approved a constitution and by laws with P C Powell presiding and F Loughary as secretary. A nine member board oversees affairs. G T Boothby named manager. Dues set at one dollar. nonmember per shipment fee applies. A sinking fund funds transit losses. Shipments taxed 3 cents per hundred pounds for sheep and pigs and 2 cents for cattle.

At a Tuesday meeting the Monmouth common council began pursuing a gravity water system. The commercial club may appoint a committee to assist and investigate feasibility. A South College street residents group sought a street light and the council will consult the power company. The council discussed Main street segments and road work between Monmouth and Independence. Ed Moreland protested wage cuts in pump repair work from fifty to forty cents an hour.
