A joint Pomonas meeting at Odd Fellows hall created the Polk Marion Associated Granges with Seymour Jones of Marion as president and A Peterson of Monmouth as overseer. The group adopted resolutions including support for Governor Patterson's deficit plan and heard performances by students and a Normal trio. Ten people attended, five Polk granges and eight Marion granges represented.

Robert L. Hornbuckle aged 60 died in a Salem hospital on Monday February 7 after a brief illness. Born March 21 1866 in Marion county he lived much of his life in the Willamette valley as a lumberman. He is survived by sister Mrs M W Prather Buena Vista and brother Newton Hornbuckle Jefferson Oregon. Funeral at Keeney Chapel Independence February 8 at 2 PM Rev W E Cutting Portland officiating. Interment I O O F Cemetery Buena Vista.

Wanderer admits series of crimes after highway pickup
Night Watchman W. J. Mulkey picked up a wanderer named Pearl Wiltewwood south of town who later confessed to stealing two cars, robbing two service stations, and bootlegging. authorities consider possible murder. He was questioned in Portland, then jailed in Dallas after telegrams to Los Angeles. Also noted are various traffic fines handed by Justice Baker, including Harold Cavender for speeding and M. L. Widness for tire and license violations.

Henry Probst 74 Dies at Daughter's Home Near Independence
Henry Probst aged 74 died at his daughter Mrs William Pegree's home four miles south of Independence on Friday February 4 after a lingering illness. Born October 4 1852 in Sunman Indiana he lived in Oneida South Dakota where he homesteaded then moved to Oregon in 1905 near Salem. Survived by daughter Mrs Wm Pegree two sons Louis of Independence and Dewey of Grants Pass two sisters Mrs Elizabeth Hever Sunman and Mrs Maggie Amm Lewiston and two brothers Peter and John Probst Terre Haute eight grandchildren. Funeral Keeney Chapel Independence February 7 at 1:30 p.m. with Rev Ford C Becker presiding Interment City View cemetery Salem.
