The Moroni Olsen company staged Outward Bound at Monmouth with a single elaborate steamship interior set. Passengers appeared lively yet were dead, assigned to stations as the ship sailed toward an implied afterlife. Two passengers were “half ways” who had committed suicide and were returned with the boat. The ending featured a fine lighting effect.

Mrs G W Newton Dies At Cooper Hollow From Flu
Rhoda Elizabeth Newton, wife of G M Newton, died at home in Cooper Hollow near Monmouth after a brief illness on February 1. Born Rhoda Elizabeth Byers in Glenwood, Iowa, she was 1867 and later moved to Independence area. Survived by husband, daughter Ethel Byers, son Sidney, sister Mrs Thomas Brank, mother Mrs Ithada A Byers, brother A G Byers, and granddaughters Florence and Barbara Jean Ayers. Funeral at Keeney Chapel Independence February 4. Burial Odd Fellows Cemetery.

She said the cordial reception will give her courage for the next attempt.

Ed Rogers Sells Jersey Bull to Wisconsin Purchaser
Ed Rogers shipped a six months old Jersey bull calf to G. B. Reedal of Phillips Wisconsin. The animal is sired by Lad's Likeness, tracing to Rinda Lad once owned by Guy Hewitt. Sale arranged through American Jersey Cattle Club rep Mr Astroth. He visited Rogers farm in Oregon, then telegram announced the sale within two weeks.

The bill repeats and reenacts all code sections on elementary schools and teachers training. It shifts certificate standards to the regents of Oregon normal schools and gradual increases weeks of training from 48 in 1920 to 60 in 1991 and 72 in 1933. Existing certificated teachers are not affected and boards may extend courses to three or four years.

The Normal school basketball team edged Salem Pulp and Paper 31 to 30 in a Wednesday night game at the local gym. Additions To Dog Cemetery Urgent Need Of The Hour
On a Buena Vista farm several sheep were killed by roaming dogs and similar attacks damaged a valued sheep in December. Monmouth now has many stray dogs roaming streets and preying on poultry, prompting calls to the city marshal. A suggested plan recalls Frank Moreland’s dog cemetery behind the power house and asks the marshal to cooperate in creating an expanded canine burial site to curb the dog problem.
