The Meyers store in Salem was acquired by the Miler Mercantile company with possession taken in the past week. The store is among the largest in the capitol city and the deal may make the Millers the largest Oregon retail concern in the group. Mr Rose of Pedeo visited last week with his brother-in-law.

The Central Tile company has planted 20 000 strawberry plants on a land tract it recently purchased to secure future raw materials. The land, bought for tile production, will not be needed for four or five years and is now farmed for agriculture.

Common Council Funds and Work Update Tuesday Night
The Common Council approved payments in the General and Water funds totaling multiple small amounts. Engineer Jones reported half the excavation completed from the intake to Monmouth with two miles of pipe laid. The city received a deed for five acres at the intake from Falls City Lumber and Logging Co. for 2150. J C Andrus plans to leave the Normal engine room soon, with George Sullivan.

Death of T J Beery Veteran Civil War Veteran
T J Beery died at his home after nine weeks illness. He was born in Ohio on December 16, 1849 and served in the Civil War. He lived many years in Oregon and is survived by his widow. Funeral services are set for Saturday at 1 p m at the residence. A fuller obituary will appear next week.

John Palmer Dies After Illness in Redlands
John Palmer died at a Redlands hospital after a prolonged illness. His remains will be taken to Oregon for burial. Mrs. T J Edwards and sisters Mrs. Silvas and Mrs. Parrish of Eastern Oregon assisted in the journey home. Death attributed to stomach poisoning from orange acid.
