The Dumas Demons visit Estes Memorial Stadium to defend their No. 1 ranking as the Lobos prepare for a strong challenge. The writer predicts a homecoming upset with the Lobos grinding out a win over the top team, while warning the visitors must avoid mistakes.
County Court received five guilty pleas this week under the new adult probation law. J. P. Halbrooks, Richard Wagner, Henry Chaneyworth, and Edgar Lee Henry pleaded to theft and were sentenced to six months in jail plus a $50 fine and costs totaling $77.25 with restitution. Hirman Meckett pleaded to contributing to the delinquency of a minor and drew a one year probated term.
An open Ward County meeting invites all teenagers to organize a Ward County Youth Council and a Teen Age Jury Panel in the second floor courtroom Sunday at 2 PM. Juvenile Officer Dugan Longbotham expects up to 150 youths with county leaders including Judge Carl Estes Police Chief Bob Patterson and Judge Bill Reagan attending as advisors. If formed the Ten-Age Jury would hear teenage minor offense and traffic cases with a youth panel operating the court, led by delegates from the Attorney General's Crime Conference in Austin such as Mike Wright Greg Short Andrea Northcutt Rodney Long Ann Patterson Patsy Falcon and Gloria Garcia of Barstow and Monahans residents part of a Permian Basin Youth Council.
Ward County grand jury reported six indictments on Monday afternoon. The six true bills target four individuals. District Clerk Jack Griggs said names cannot be released yet because defendants are either not bonded or remain in jail, with further actions expected later this week.
The notice states the Estes Stadium press box phone number WI 39162 and that in emergencies the public address system can summon persons in the stands.
Champion horses trained by young 4-H members will compete at Ward County Coliseum in the District Six Third Annual 4-H Horse Show starting at 9 a.m. About 75 entries from Del Rio to El Paso are expected for a one day event with four champion horses and one showmanship award.
Homecoming events unfold with Lobo B Team facing Midland Lee at Estes Stadium Thursday 7 30 p m. A pep rally at the high school gym follows at 2 30 p m. The bonfire lights west of the Youth Center at 7 30 p m. Friday features an Exes gathering and busines meeting then the football game at 8 p m and a Coliseum dance at 10 p m with public invited.
Homecoming activities begin Friday at 2 30 p m with a pep rally at the high school gym and continue through Saturday. The Ex-Students Association, students, faculty and townspeople have organized a weekend of events. Fans from Dumas and the area will gather at Estes Memorial Stadium and Monahans Street for the game. Saturday features half time ceremonies crowning the queen with a royal court and elaborate fireworks. Candidates for the queen’s identity remain secret until the half time show.

Ward County teachers have two professional gatherings this week. Tonight at 7 30 the Ward County Teachers Association holds its fall meeting at the Grandfalls High School. Saturday district six teachers will meet in Monahans for a Texas State Teachers Association workshop. About 150 area teachers attend.
KOSA TV Channel 7 will present an exclusive Lobos feature at 11 o clock Friday night. The program is an objective study highlighting the upcoming contest between the Green Demons and the Lobos with Jerry Desmond and staff providing the footage shot yesterday.
Wickett’s board of equalization approved a new tax rate of 85 cents, a 15 cent cut from the prior rate. Property values are assessed at 70 percent, per City Secretary L H Lance. Mayor W C Moore presided at the meeting with council members Alive Pardue Olaf Luckie James Cox R S Mitchell and J C Haworth. A brief animal control discussion occurred with no action taken.
Jaycees with Little League helpers are selling Lifesavers antidote kits at 2.95 each this week. Door to door calls are made at night though many residents are away. Publicity chair Gib Wright says residents can call 3 2571 3 441 or 3 5536 to order delivery.
A demonstration and lecture titled the Magic of Fire is expected to draw Mobil employees and local firemen and city officials to a 9 a.m. session at the Chamber of Commerce. A Bureau of Mines representative will be in charge.
Criminal District Court will open here Monday at 9 30 a m with ten matters on the docket. District Attorney A R Archer will not announce ready on one case. Trials expected include Charles Hardin and Eugene Summers for the Molotov cocktail fire at a south Monahans trailer home. Other defendants listed include Melvin Sutton Warren Smith L H Mann Gilbert de la Rosa Jimmie Meek Dewey Francisco and C D Graham.
Dr. E. Stanley Jones, world renowned Christian leader, comes to Monahans for a Spiritual Life Mission November 28 to December 3. Mass meetings are set for each evening at the Ward County Coliseum with arrangements led by local sponsoring churches and the Ministerial Alliance.
The Monahans News picks contest prize will be shared by four winners at 2.50 dollars each. George Sidle Mrs James Barnes and David Martinez of Monahans and Bell Harris of Eldorado missed only one game. Martinez and Sidle missed the Ector El Paso game while Mrs Barnes erred on Odessa Lubbock and Eldorado chose Dallas Sunset over Brownwood.
A mattress burned near 310 N Main yesterday afternoon about four o clock. Firefighters extinguished the blaze and prevented further damage to adjacent property.
Superintendent Gorge Cal lander announced Estes Stadium reserved seating for the Lobo Dumas game. Section I in the west stands designated as reserved and tickets go on sale at 8:30 Friday morning. East stand Section B held for homecoming exes. all other reserved seats are taken.
State Representative Gene Hendryx of Alpine has been named to three legislative council study committees: Facilities for Delinquent and Dependent and Neglected Children, Preservation of Texas Forts and Missions, and a brochure on the Texas Capitol.
