He adds Barstow’s population justifies a pool and notes local youths must swim in water filled gravel pits which he calls hazardous.
The weekly high school football winners contest, sponsored by local businesses, offers a $120 cash prize to the best picker each week. A list of 12 area games appears in this issue, with next week’s list in Monday’s paper.
A Sept 7 blaze at a house on South 45th Street in Fort Worth caused complete loss. A separate Sept 9 fire at Wipe & Supply on North Main led to significant damage. No injuries reported. Authorities continue to investigate the incidents.
Monahans-Wicket Pyote School District reviews three upgrade plans for facilities during a lengthy Tuesday session. Pro 1 totals 3.8 million with a new high school and pool. Pro 2 3.79 million with a revised junior high. Pro 3 3.385 million including senior high expansion. Browne Elementary would be abandoned and Clements-Pope to house kindergarten next year.
Allen Construction Company of Midland began work on a new Southern Union Gas Company office building at 4th and Calvin. The single story structure covers about 5000 square feet and will house commercial and service department offices. Pre cast aggregate panels will clad the rear exterior and completion is expected by late November or early December.
