Texas Electric Service Company district manager Bill Griffin plans a 9 percent revenue increase proposal for the city council. The hike would average about 7.4 percent for residential customers. City engineers will discuss sewer plant improvements and bids for police vehicles plus a 1/2 ton pickup will be opened.
Late registration remains open for Odessa College courses including English 132 232 Government 231 232 History 231 and Psychology 231. Classes meet evenings this week at Monahans High School rooms 119 117 122 121 for new students.
Friday release lists six topics for Tuesday meeting. Key items include a construction report on the school county recreation complex due for completion by December and tennis courts beside the Junior High, plus updates on adult education, curriculum by Assistant Superintendent Lathan Walker, a workers' compensation policy review, and a Senate Bill 52 drug education and crime prevention presentation.
A light shower dropped about .07 of an inch in local rain gauges after 2 p.m. Friday, lasting 30 minutes. Forecasters predicted heavier rain, but Monahans saw only light showers as two fronts converged. The year’s total rainfall stands at 8.33 inches per the Soil Conservation Service.

A 17 year old Monahans student Charles Newby Jr of 518 West 5th is jailed on a 25000 bond facing a murder charge. He allegedly killed his grandfather Samuel P. Newby 73 after arriving home from school on Wednesday night. Authorities say a large fork was used in the attack. autopsy results are pending. Burial services for the elder Newby were held in Wickett and he is survived by a widow, children, siblings, and seven grandchildren.
Crown Central Pipeline of Houston returns to Commissioners Court seeking a contract to lay a short line. The last bid was rejected after County Judge Chester Taggart criticized fair dealing. The court remains cautious about process and fairness.
After about eight and a half hours of deliberations a 148th District court jury found for Archer on two of seven issues and against him on five. The verdict came in a five day disbarment trial before Judge Earl Smith in San Angelo with nine spectators present.
Two cases set for trial in the 143rd District Court this week per District Attorney Lawrence Barber. Bennie Lee Phillips faces theft charges after arrest on March 29 and Joe Ted Derrick faces heroin possession charges after arrest on June 18.
