Absentee voting in the General Election opens Wednesday at the County Clerk's office in the courthouse. National and State races and constitutional amendments attract attention. several contests feature named candidates and local official elections.
The Monahan Jaycees stage a five night Halloween haunted house from Friday October 27 after the football game to Halloween night in the Jaycee Building South Alice. Open 8 p m nightly admission five hundred cents. Richard Johnson promises new spooks and treats include a bag of candy gum balloons and goodies.
Amendment six on the November ballot would authorize the legislature to raise the number of associate justices on a court of civil appeals and allow the court to sit in sections. The proposal would amend Article V, Section 6, of the Texas Constitution.
The Ward County Democratic Club will meet at 7:00 p.m. Monday at the Monahans Community Center east of the courthouse. Officers for 1979 will be elected and the program includes discussion of the eight proposed amendments for the November 7 General Election, including a Tax Relief Amendment, with attendance urged by Club President Sue Carter.
The Public Utility Commission grants an 8.9 percent temporary rate rise for Texas Electric Service Co and orders a broad review of all dealings with sister companies Dallas Power & Light and Texas Power & Light. The plan lowers the customer service fee from 7 to 6 dollars for the first 25 kilowatt hours.
Odessa Medical Center appeals for donor blood to replace 15 units used before Fred Schwettman’s death. Donations should be directed to the center and credited to Mr Schwettman.
