Vandalism prompts county action at commissioners court
Vandalism dominated discussions at the Ward County commissioners court with reports of stolen fence posts at the Sand Hills Archery Club and repeated damage to the Ward County Coliseum horse pens and Ward Memorial Hospital sprinklers. Officials considered guards or a gallows idea, while the court approved paying current taxes on low value delinquent parcels to prevent their roll from growing. A new tractor loader for Precinct 2 was bid at 9,500 with other bids higher. CONTINUED ON PAGE 1

Monahans City Council tussles over gas franchise wording
The Monahans City Council debated Southern Union Gas Co. contract phrasing for reimbursement of rate case expenses within 45 days. SAG lawyers objected to terms implying sale of gas to the city rather than to Monahans residents and to a fixed $10 implementation cost. Managers urged a quicker resolution while noting the 2 year contract terms and calls for city attorney review. Another yearlong contract discussion with airport managers followed after negotiations with Bob Parks.
