A West Texas special train will depart Dallas on June 11 to the Chicago World’s Fair for West Texans attending the exposition. Fares begin at 23.45 with sleepers included and top berths at 39.70 for round trip travel and four nights in Chicago. Reservations through G B Sandefer Abilene must be made by June 3.
The Ward County News of Barstow celebrates 35 years serving Barstow and nearby areas. Mrs. W. N. Townley owns the paper, assisted by her son George, continuing the legacy after Mr. Townley’s death. The note recalls Townley as a skilled writer and local leader with past ventures in Pyote and Monahans.
Presidio Texas hosts a free fish fry on June 4 5 with swimming contests rodeo baseball games and a home carnival. Attractions include bathing revue trips to Ojinaga in Old Mexico music dances free camping water lights fuel and plenty of fresh fish. Presidio and Ojinaga expect to expand the event this year.
Mr and Mrs W T Powell of Monahans left Tuesday for an extended tour of the East visiting Washington DC New York City and the Chicago World's Fair They are both educators at Monahans schools and friends wish them a pleasant vacation.

Mrs Lula Daniel who runs the local telephone exchange is gradually recovering after several weeks confined to bed.
The Lions Club met at 12:05 at Tubb Hall with twelve members and two visitors. Lion J A Summerhill, newly elected school superintendent, spoke on the Value of Salesmanship. Rev H S Burgin and J O Donaldson attended as visitors. Donaldson hopes to join. Luncheon menu included pear salad and roast pork. The club postponed next week’s luncheon due to the 49 show.
Next Thursday July 1 is the last day for Monahans taxpayers to pay city taxes without penalty and interest. Property owners are urged to settle on or before the date to save costs and ease city finances.
Wives of early railroad workers recall a Monahans dance at Sand Hills five miles away. With no usable engine, a cowboy and team of horses pulled a flat car loaded with dancers down a downhill stretch to reach the event. The return trip proved tougher but the dancers slept through it afterward.
Monahans chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star urges all members to attend the regular meeting Thursday night May 25 at 8 o'clock in the Masonic Hall. The session will elect new officers for the ensuing year and is the last May meeting.
The Texas Senate approved adjourning the regular 43rd Legislature on May 30 by a 16 to 9 vote. Senator Walter Woodward opposed, fearing governor action on department appropriations and veto risks. The House tabled the adjournment resolution pending call.
In the impeachment trial of Federal Judge Louderback, witness Guy H. Gilbert testified he sent a bill to the court for 100 days of appraisal work at five dollars a day, but he admitted under cross examination that he had done no work to earn the salary. Louderback was a California state judge at the time of the incident.
The Monahans Moguls host Fort Stockton Sunday at 3:00 PM after a 7 1 loss in Fort Stockton. Moguls have added players, improved since, and aim to avenge the earlier defeat. Marshall and Garrison will pitch as locals faced Grandfalls 16 to 7 last Sunday.
The Van Horn Advocate reports the bakery in Van Horn shut last week due to lack of customers. The Good Eats Bakery in Monahans also closed as residents rely on bread baked in Odessa, Lamesa, Pecos and El Paso. advocates urge using Monahans baked bread locally.
May 23 McCamey Texas locals report the body of Mrs Albert Dulaney 31 of Houston died when the auto she rode in overturned on the Old Spanish Trail south of McCamey. Mrs R E Martin of Houston was slightly injured as the party returned from El Paso to San Antonio.
Friday report details a rough clash between Lions club and Moguls ending 9 to 6. Lions star Dave Suddreth and George H Rhodes suffered injuries from pitches by Moguls starter Jimmy Marshall. Marshall apologized as he continued pitching and managing duties at Jimmy's Cafe.
Oil Field Lumber Company Inc announces a new yard in the area and invites the public to call for estimates on building problems. Managed by C W Pylant, the firm offers building material, oil field supplies, glass, paints, and hardware with yards in Mexia Odessa Richland Breckenridge Grand Saline as part of Southern Pine Lumber Co of Texarkana.
A three day Norge electric refrigerator demonstration by Pecos Furniture Company at Sherwood Grocery and Market drew many Monahans housewives. Purchasers last week included E. T. Carnes A. H. Seals and W. M. Cope. Mr. and Mrs. Jim Gauntley of Crane visited Will Terrell and his wife Sunday.
There will be no meeting of the Womans Missionary Society next Monday as it is the 5th Monday and visiting day. All members are asked to visit new residents in the city and seek to enlist new members.
About ten autos carry Monahans Lions Club members and twenty two high school band members to Wink Pyote Barstow and Pecos to promote the big 49 show. Cotton and His Pickers will headline a three night Tubbs Hall event May 30 31 and June 1 to fund a community hall for Lions PTA and civic uses. Advertising trips target Royalty Grandfalls Crane Odessa and possibly Midland with more towns invited to attend the fundraiser. The show runs 9 to night and promises $10000 worth of fun per dime with a surprise program.
Mrs Irby Dyer of Barstow spoke as president of the 15th district Parent Teachers Association at Crane P T A meeting. The Bi County council of Crane and Pecos counties marked its two year anniversary with a luncheon, birthday cake and candles. Proceeds from a free will offering were given to the district president for extension work.
Four more buildings to be moved and erected on the Monahans high school campus along with an expansion program led by new superintendent J A Summerhill. The structures are being relocated from Wink and Ben Allen of Royalty has the contract for moving and setup. The project reflects Monahans growth as an oil town and the school district’s expansion plan.
