RRC Sets Top Allowable, Sees Banner Year Ahead
The Railroad Commission set the April 1981 Texas oil production rate at 100 percent of market demand for the 50th consecutive month and 106th since the ceiling began in 1972. Purchaser nominations totaled 2,588,452 barrels daily, up 6,906 from March, while gil nominations for gas reached 24,237,960 Mef/d. Chairman James E. Nugent said five months show a leveling off of declines, predicting steady or slightly higher output for months, and optimism that 1981 could be a banner year as deregulation and exploration boost production. He noted 7,300 well permit applications in the first two months of 1981, a pace that could reach 44,000 by year’s end.
