Prehistoric Caddoan village found near Texarkana
Archeologists uncover a Caddoan Indian village north of Texarkana dating 800 to 1800 AD. It features large ceremonial mounds, with one thirty feet high and a landmark mound near the Red River. Trade linked Puebloan and eastern mound builders. De Soto and Tonti are linked to the site. Epidemic struck the population in the first year, and by 1802 the Caddoes moved south into western Louisiana.
