The Ward County Riding and Roping Club hosts the AJRA rodeo starting Wednesday with a parade led by Club Sweetheart Becky Meek and Parade Marshall R. C. Swope. The event runs through Saturday featuring barrels, goat tying, roping, bronc and bull riding, with age divisions and a $100 scholarship for top All-Around winners. Jury Awards Settlement of $100000 in Johnson suit
A 143rd District jury awarded $100000 to Mrs. Vanda Johnson and her three minor children for the death of Aaron Glen Johnson in a May 1974 industrial accident. The suit named Union of Texas Petroleum Corporation and Haliburton Company, with Johnson employed by A.W. Thompson Drilling. The alleged defective Chickson joint caused the fatal strike northwest of Pyote. Attorneys included Russ Adders and Tyron Lewis for plaintiffs and Shaffer Gilliand Davis Bunton for defendants.
