Former Resident Escapes Tornado Violence Near Booker Texas
Mr and Mrs C E Watkins returned from a visit with their daughter Mrs Richard Sell the former Rita Watkins after she and her family endured a tornado that demolished their eight room cattle ranch home near Booker in Lipscomb County on May 27 The family sheltered in the south west corner as the storm struck Mrs Sell and her two young sons David and Kerry escaped with only minor injuries while Mr Sell in a nearby shop also narrowly avoided harm and was helping others secure a vehicle The shop was destroyed and the families involved Grifin and Sell survived without serious harm

Monahans Men Improve After Weekend Wreck
Reports say two Monahans men injured in a two car accident west of Monahans on May 31 are improving. F. E. Buddy Tatum is in good condition at Ward Memorial Hospital. Olin Petitjean is improving after leg surgery at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa.

Mission Screwworm Plant Dedication Set for Saturday
Dedication of the new sterile fly production plant at Mission, headquarters of the Southwest Screwworm Eradication Program, will be at 10 a.m. Attending officials include John Wilson Ward and representatives from Oklahoma, New Mexico, Louisiana, and Arkansas. Livestock producers funded 59 cents per person toward the project. The ceremony marks a milestone for the Southwest livestock industry and the eradication effort. Visitors may tour the plant and view production phases before the flies are released in early July.
