Surviving the Rio Grande flash flood near Marfa
Tommy Jane and Hugh Howard endured a four hour battle with the rampaging Rio Grande after a flash flood destroyed their travel trailer. Buffeted by debris they fought currents, lost a dog, and clung to cushions until help arrived from locals, a rescuer on horseback, a plane sighting, and a raft team. They praised divine aid and credited strength to each other as they were saved near Lajitas Colorado Canyon and later treated at the Calvary Post.

Bear advice for encounters with grizzly bears
Bearsmagazine advises remaining calm when faced with a bear. Do not panic, back away slowly, speak firmly, and avoid running. If a grizzly charges, shout rather than scream. If attacked, lie face down or curl up to protect the neck, playing dead with hands behind the neck. If lucky, authorities say this may signal you are not a threat.
