Mystery crater swallows oil field as crews race to cap well
At a site between Wink and Kermit a 30 to 35 foot deep hole grew from three yards to about 100 by 150 yards in hours, threatening pipelines and forcing Shell Gulf Petro-Lewis and Arco to halt lines and cap a 40 barrel per day producer. Cause remains unknown with theories ranging from water injections to underground caverns.

Commissioners to Inspect Two Construction Jobs
County commissioners plan a light agenda Monday with two completed projects set for inspection. Basco Building Systems built the Precinct 2 equipment building at the coliseum for 32395 with a 90 day limit, and Pioneer Fence Co. erected 3700 feet of fence around the caliche pit for 22326. An extra 980 covers 660 feet of water pipe, a quick coupling, and an extra trencher rental for Grandfalls Park sprinkler work. A portable x ray machine, deemed unfit for human use, may be sold after bids are advertised.
