Mini Lake Tests Dowell Seal for Monahans Lake
Test lake of about one acre started Tuesday to prove Dowell Inc sealant works for Monahans Community Lake. A four inch bottom and side coat combines Bentonite sand and a polymer to create a near watertight seal at an estimated cost of 3000 dollars. Project engineer Bill Miller targets seepage under .06 inch daily with annual West Texas evaporation around .25 inch and past seepage seven inches per day when filled last summer. If successful the full lake may be completed by year end, with two month monitoring of seepage evaporation and related factors.
