Gardener Hints for Blossom End Rot in Tomatoes
County Agent Johnny Harrison advises Ward County gardeners to apply calcium chloride to curb blossom-end-rot on tomatoes. For sandy soils use one heaping tablespoon per plant in a two foot diameter area, then water. for heavy soils place calcium chloride in a trench around the plant and water to leach into the root zone. The problem typically hits plants one third to one half grown, often after dry weather or heavy nitrogen applications.
