Judith Ann Merritt, 23, advances from MPD dispatcher to county jailer after two years of “fun” on the force. She plans to become a commissioned officer, earned by a week-long basic jail operations course by the Permian Basin Law Enforcement Association.
The Green Thumb Exhibit drew over 200 entries with six judges evaluating in Fort Stockton and Pecos districts. Winners include Bill Be kham for Cockscomb in Horticulture, Mamie Blissett for Tyroses and Fan in Summer Garden, Jim Taylor for Thompson Seedless Grapes in Fruit and Nut, Lois Pomroy for Purple Hull Peas in Vegetable, Dorine Fine for Jalapeno Jelly in Canned Preserved and Dried Foods, and Pat Middlebrooks for Bananas in Dumb Thumb. Additional prizes were awarded to Susan Parker, Daeon Harris, Trina Cunningham, Angela Cunningham, Julie Harris, Christine Barnes, and others across Junior and Senior divisions.
