County approves 500 dollar increase for indigent burials

Ward County Commissioners approved a 500 dollar rise in indigent burial payments, raising the county share to 750 dollars for an adult burial at Wilson-Miller Funeral Home. The firm noted standard services cost about 1,447.23 dollars, with past casual discounts and crediting practices to the county. The board considered collecting a Social Security lump sum death benefit of 255 dollars from survivors to offset costs and asked for a contract ensuring the county’s right to the lump sum. The discussion also touched on lower rates for smaller caskets and a proposed county appraisal district reform.
