City Council Adopts Budget For New Fiscal Year
The Morahans city council approved the 1962 63 budget starting August 1 with a 1.20 per 100 tax rate. The budget totals 614 781 dollars an increase of about 54 000. Funds allocate police patrol man animal warden street laborer and sanitation laborer. Elder John W. Fanning of Kermit was chosen to serve as president of the Monahans Branch of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, replacing E. L. Blair. The ceremony was led by President Ralph J. Hill of Houston with attendees from Midland Odessa and Pecos. Fanning and wife Hannah have two children, Audrey and David. Murder Charge Lodged Against Brooks Estes
Brooks Estes of Monahans faces a murder with malice after an assault charge change after Alton Lairmer Larimer, 38, of Monahans, was shot Sunday morning at an East Monahans service station and died Sunday night. Estes’ bond rose to 5000, case awaiting Ward County Grand Jury. Funeral services for Larimer were held in Monahans with military rites. he was a World War II veteran. He is survived by his wife, mother, father, and a half sister. born September 6, 1923 in Kopper, Bosque County. He died on an operating table in Midland Memorial Hospital at 7:38 Sunday.

County OKs Negotiations for City-County Park Plan
Ward County Commissioners authorized County Judge Toon Estes to negotiate with Monahans to build a new city county park at the southwest edge of Monahans. The county will spend up to 5000 dollars yearly for the project. They also approved an application to close a road northwest of Monahans in ranch territory.
June Visitors Top 10 000 at Sandhills State Park
Park Manager J A Jaynes reports 10 375 visitors for June at Sandhills State Park including 350 overnight campers. Autos numbered 2 075 with 1 645 from Texas and 430 from other states. The peak day was June 23 with exactly 1 000 visitors.
