Fourth of July Celebration Planned in Monahans Park
Monahans flags kickoff at Sandhills State Park Wednesday with fireworks from 8:30 p.m. to about 9:15. Co chairs Henry Treadaway and Jack Blanchard lead the event. Firemen oversee the display as local banks and offices close for the holiday. Public safety units will monitor driving practices during the holiday period. Last year’s Fourth in Ward County saw no traffic deaths.

Ward County residents will witness a time capsule opening on July 18 2012 during Jubilee Week. The event at the Ward County Courthouse lawn features state and local officials including Jack Cox, with items such as a Jubilee booklet, Monahans materials, 1962 coins, a dedication tape, and a photo, stored for future citizens.

Black Man Involved in Flats Public Safety Incident
Charlie Smiley, a Grandfalls employee, surrendered to Ward County Jail after a Sunday early morning incident in Monahans flats. Willie B. Thomas remained in serious condition at Ward Memorial Hospital as authorities prepared charges. Sheriff Blackie McNerlin confirmed the events and pending filing of charges.

Stephenson Rites Held At Wickett Baptist Church
Funeral services for Beverly Jo Stephenson 20 daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Stephenson were held Friday at First Baptist Church of Wickett. Interment followed at Monahans Cemetery. Barnes Funeral Home in charge. She died after dental surgery at Providence Hospital in El Paso. Survived by her parents and one sister Jerrey Ann Parrish of Monahans.
