John D. Jack Jackson a ground school instructor for American Airlines and Fort Worth Flight Academy will speak at the Monahans Chamber of Commerce Banquet and General Membership Meeting on February 6. Tickets are six dollars at local banks and the Chamber office.

Monahans Police See Rise in Complaints in 1974

Monahans police handled 6 497 calls in 1974 up from 5 368 in 1973 according to the annual report by Police Chief Joe Drea. Arrests declined from 519 to 462 as 130 criminal actions were filed. Traffic mishaps reached 239 with $100 959 in property damage. major causes included speeding, right of way, and vehicle control infractions. One death occurred inside city limits.

Senior Citizens Luncheon Monday January 27

The January Senior Citizen Luncheon will be held Monday January 27 at the Senior Citizen Center starting at noon. A Winter Magic theme will be used in decorations supplied by the Tau Lambda Study Club. Southern Union Gas will supply the meat for the event.

Monahans Band Pancake Supper Next Saturday

The Monahans Big Green Band pancake supper will be at the County Coliseum starting 6 p.m. Saturday February 1. Students from 6th grade to high school perform with tickets $1.25 for adults and 0.75 for younger students. Proceeds fund band activities and include pancakes bacon drinks and homemade cakes and pies.

Monahans Man Faces Double Child Abuse Charges

Walter M. Hoffman, 25, of 1004 West 2nd in Monahans, charged with two counts of child abuse. Two boys ages 3 1/2 and 2 hospitalized with facial, head, back injuries and signs of malnutrition. Three children removed from home. Hoffman held on $10,000 bond per charge.

Barstow Meet Planned For Alfalfa

A Barstow Community Center meeting on January 27 at 7 30 p m will address alfalfa production problems and innovations. E J Harrison Ward County Extension Agent says Ken Lindsey will discuss weed control fertilization and management in established alfalfa. Charles Need will cover insect control for hay and seed crops. Del Davis will explain alfalfa's role in the grass fat cattle era and other irrigated crops for saline water.

Gopher Control Meet Scheduled January 29

Gopher control demonstration set for 10 a m on Wednesday January 25 at James Ward Orchard south of Monahans. Robert W Miles of El Paso Urban Rodent Control Specialist will showcase burrow builders for large scale gopher control and baiting. The Texas Rodent and Predatory Animal Control Service program partners with Texas A&M Extension and the U S Fish and Wildlife Service to educate the public on rodent damage and safe control methods.

Ward County Livestock Show board appointed nineteen committeemen and three chairmen for the 36th Ward County 4-H Livestock Show set February 21 to 26. Show events include a Downtown Parade February 24 and daily livestock judging culminating in an auction and Buckle presentation.
