New Monahans News Volume 46 Opens With Community Drug Awareness Efforts
The issue outlines ongoing efforts to address drug problems in Ward County following a series last year. A town meeting with Bob Dixon of PBRPC drew about 12 attendees to plan community actions. A third meeting is set for Tuesday at 7:30 PM at the Community Center to discuss solutions with local government backing. The Monahans Police Department will show a drug awareness film night on Thursday March 3 at the Junior High Auditorium with three half hour films on marijuana pills and LSD. Admission is $1 and a second showing will occur if needed. parents are urged to attend with their children.

38th Annual Livestock Show Parade Opens Monahans
The 38th Ward County Livestock Show kicks off with a downtown parade Monday featuring bands floats bicycles horses and numerous participants. The event announces cash prizes in junior and senior divisions with top three places earning 50 15 and 10 respectively and a Grand Champion prize of 50. A new Best Decorated Bicycle category is added to the awards.

Optimist Club Flag Program promotes Independence Day display
About 200 American flags will be displayed in Monahans as part of the Optimist Club Flag Program. Merchants pay 15 dollars the first year and ten dollars annually to fund upkeep. The program covers multiple patriotic holidays and includes a parade with prize money and the Odessa College Senorita de las Rosas drill team.
