Dr William C Riley of Big Spring will speak on arthritis at 7 30 this evening in the Monahans Junior High Auditorium. The event is sponsored by the Monahans Home Demonstration Club and open to the public without charge.
Filing deadlines approach for municipal and school district races set for April 3. March 3 closes filings for most ballots while Monahans School Board filings stay open till March 4. Cities and school boards in Monahans Grandfalls Pyote Barstow Thortonville Wickett Grand Falls also seek candidates.
Bowman said registration figures are in Dallas and on computer rolls with this week’s estimates. He urged unregistered voters planning to vote this year to sign up as soon as possible.
Monahans approves three contracts totaling 241674.60 for a solid waste collection system. Pak-Mar Manufacturing wins 179575 for 1100 three cubic yard containers and 25000 for two packer trucks. Don Perryman Motors gains 22848 for two truck chassis. Sooner Construction Equipment to supply hydraulic loader for 14251.60. Cash 61000 and 180000 financed by certificates. System to operate in 3–4 months.
Coach Jerry Larned of the Lobos asserts readiness as Pecos and Fort Stockton rivals stay quiet. The Lobos face the Eagles and Panthers on March 14 at Estes Stadium to decide the Texas championship with tickets available through the Chamber of Commerce for the March 14 and March 21 playoff games.
The 4-H Leaders Ranch Breakfast kicks off Ward County Livestock Show week with a Monahans Community Center meal 6 to 8 Friday. Tickets cost 2 for adults and 1 at the door for children. The 37th exposition runs February 28 to March 5 with Open Horse Show events Saturday and a Pet Parade Monday evening.
Ward County commissioners agreed to study City Manager Jack Forga's request for help running Monahans sanitary landfill. He sought about one third of operating costs around 15 200 dollars yearly. The panel left action to negotiation noting two thirds of refuse comes from Monahans and the rest from outside areas.
Ward County announces two school elections on Saturday April 3. Grandfalls Royalty School Board seeks incumbents for Places 5 6 and 7 with Bowden Jr in Place 5 and Polanco in Position 7 already filing. Seat 6 is vacant after the death of George Sidle. Filing closes March 3. Contact C B Wheeler at the School Administration Office to run. Absentee voting will begin.
