Ward County Livestock Show Parade Opens 40th Exposition
The 40th Ward County Livestock Show kicks off with an Exposition Parade at 5 p.m. Monday from Hill Park along Bruce Street to Sealy and into downtown. Floats win cash prizes. parade chairmen are A. D. Scott and Wayne McPeak. After, Kids Kanine Kostume Karnival at 7 p.m. at the County Coliseum with judges named. Entry fee 25 cents. open to Ward County youths under 19 with dogs on leash and rabies vaccination. Stock show events resume Tuesday with weighing in at 1 p.m. Judging runs Wednesday through Friday for rabbits goats lambs steers barrows and sale entries. Flying Colonel Sandy Leverett auctions top 4-H and FFA animals at 1 p.m. Friday. Food concessions run midweek to Friday with various clubs operating them. Door prize winners from Ranch Breakfast listed.
Ward County Commissioners Schedule Dual Meetings This Week
The Ward County Commissioners will hold a double session this week with a 9 a.m. Monday meeting and a 1:30 p.m. Tuesday special session. Agenda items include a resignation letter from Bert Potts as Justice of the Peace of Precinct 2, and a vote to appoint a new JP from Bill Grant Ed Hammond or Ted Leslie.

Corporations Must File 1978 Tax Return by March 15
The Internal Service states that corporations with fiscal years ending December 31 must file their 1978 federal income tax return by Thursday March 15. If more time is needed, file Form 7004 by March 15 for an automatic extension and deposit at least 50 percent of the balance due in an authorized bank or at the Federal Reserve.

City Council Eyes Opposing Texas Utility Bill
At Tuesday 2 p.m. the City Council will consider sending a resolution to the Texas Legislature opposing a bill that would bypass city governments in approving rate increases by directing utilities straight to the Utility Commission. Grady Wooldridge plans to restore the old convalescent home into efficiency apartments. City Manager Jack Forga will report on grants for sewer plant rehabilitation and a Mona Hans Housing Authority routing of utilities request for the low rent project. Bids will be opened on a depository bank and a tax roll adjustment will be considered.

Weather Watching lecture set Monday in Midland
The Midland Amateur Radio Club and Midland County Civil Defense sponsor a "Weather Watching" lecture with Larry Eblen of the National Weather Service in Lubbock. West Highway 80 upgrade planned in West Texas
Bids received February 15 for upgrading the last gap on Interstate 20 corridor to near interstate standards. Project on US Highway 80 from east of Monahans to west of Judkins covers 13.7 miles with reconstruction of main lanes, frontage roads, grade separations, and interchanges at Farm to Market Road 1053 and Park Road 41. Bridges use unusual decks with wax beads and super water reduced concrete to resist deicing chemicals, per Odessa district engineers.
