Duncan Runs For City Council Two Year Term
H M Duncan announced this week as candidate for the City Council two year seat joining incumbents L B Stevenson Sr Jack Sharp and Jerry Hamman in the race. Filing closes March 5 with two two year terms and one one year term at stake along with the mayoral post. Incumbent Mayor Jim Williams and Wayne Long seek the mayoral seat. Absentee voting runs March 17 to April 2 per City Secretary Clyde Wilson.

Contracts Awarded For Enlarging Main Water Line
City Council awarded the bid to R B Hodgson Co Odessa for extending a 12 inch water line from North Eva Street under the T and P tracks and U S 80 to feeder lines. Base bid 12527.80 included a pump at Country Club Station and extension to Third Street. Final decision also awarded a separate pump contract to Asa Hunt of Dallas for 2120. City set election for April 6 with Walt Roeber as judge.

Paine Gift Boosts ACC Funds For Acres For Aggies
Willard and Mrs Paine increased their ACC building fund gift to 50000 for land near Abilene under the Acres for Aggies drive. ACC President Don Morris announced another 25000 gift from the Paine couple, part of 166000 total gifts. The board approved a 257 million plan including a 596 acre farm north of Abilene for instruction and labs. Paine chairs the Acres for Aggies drive and serves on multiple ACC and national committees.
