Tragic pickup crash kills two girls at junior high lot
A pickup veered off Doris Street at Monahans Junior High School during lunch, killing Patricia O’Dell and LaShawn Richardson both 13, and injuring nine others including 14-year-old Karen Mills who remained in intensive care. Witnesses blamed the driver Israel Talavera 16 as the vehicle jumped the curb, struck a utility pole and flipped onto a school bus. Ambulances, police, and emergency crews evacuated victims as bystanders filled the hospital area. investigators continued at press time.

Stockshow activities include weigh-ins, Rabbit Capon Goat and Lamb shows, and a Saturday Horse Show at the riding arena adjacent to the Coliseum.
