Derailment near Wickett spares injuries and heavy damage
A westbound Texas and Pacific freight derailed about five miles west of Wickett on Saturday morning. Twenty five cars were involved including two liquid petroleum cars that did not rupture. No injuries were reported as crew in the ends and engine remained on track. Crews cleared wreckage through Sunday and built a temporary by pass to restore traffic. Early focus centered on hobos. five or six were aboard until Odessa. Engineer E. C. Casey credited with saving lives by applying air brakes from the caboose as cars derailed.
