President Signs Rutherford Bill for Pecos River Project
President Eisenhower signed the bill sponsored by Rep. J. T. Rutherford approving a 2.75 million dollar Pecos River Basin channelization and salinity relief project. Texas farmers expect clearer water and more supply as 279 tons of salt is removed daily and spring artesian water is diverted to reduce salinity above the Texas line. The plan shifts brine to Queen's Lake New Mexico and builds pumps at Malage Bend to drain springs.
